This is Maria. There were some technical difficulties but I was finally able to log in.
I just finished a first, very exciting week at the Orange County Register which you can read more about at the water cooler discussion. I graduated last December from Florida International University, in Miami, with a degree in journalism and minors in French and history.
I have a couple of fears which I try to cope with by not thinking too much about them. My major fear is to finish my internship without learning enough. I fear just “getting by” my internship without becoming a better reporter. I’m my worst critic and never cared much about grades because inside I knew how much I had learned in class or hadn’t. This goes in hand with fearing mediocrity, like some of you mentioned earlier.
My goals include to grow professionally, to improve my writing, to get a few amazing clips I can be proud of, to be remembered as a dedicated and aggressive reporter and to create a couple of multimedia projects.
