bernie the cockroach was an experimental online column for  the pioneering newspaper web site examiner.com from 1999-2000. bernie was the cyber-cousin twice removed of archy, the philosophical cockroach that transmigrated onto the pages of the new york sun in 1916 when the american daily newspaper hit its media peak. bernie’s calling was to explore the promise of the web.

bernie was honored by the national society of newspaper columnists in the online column division, interviewed in a dozen articles, including editor and publisher, and named a top web content creator by human cybercolumnist steve outing.
